Portfolio > The Dryad

The Dryad is a persona that has conjured itself through drawings, sculptures, installations, and most notably in performance work throughout my studio practice. Projects that the Dryad sprouts up in tend to explore concepts of queerness intersecting with ecological welfare, and the burden of violence that can tend to surround these issues on a global cultural scale. This character acts as an embodiment of the earth, depicted as an androgynous primordial entity filled with a dark, morose--and at times repulsive and horrifying--energy. The Dryad often reflects aesthetics of queer counter-cultures including that of "drag creatures" in order to shock viewers and instill a sense of urgency for action against environmental collapse.
